Update on the Building Rennovation
As 2015 drew to a close, the Board and staff of ACCESS Soup Kitchen/Men's Shelter celebrated the blessings of major accomplishments toward improving the building and facilities. The Board also recommitted the organization to much-needed work in 2016 and dedicated themselves to ensuring a strong fundraising campaign to complete the work. The achievements to date could not have been possible without the large number of volunteers, donors, friends, and community groups and institutions, the staff and the ACCESS Board.
In 2015 the ACCESS Board made a unanimous commitment to remodeling and furnishing the facility on Frankfort's Second Street. Local Frankfort architect Don Jeffers volunteered his expertise, giving his time to develop a concept plan and oversee its execution. Contractor Frank Haydon volunteered to direct the work details and gave a gift of his time and staff on Phase One and team with Don Jeffers.
As part of the renovation plan, ACCESS purchased the much needed adjoining property and integrated it into the overall facility. An Eagle Scout, under the direction of Andrew Baker, provided materials and labor for enclosing and securing the rear area of the property. A major achievement was the purchase and installation of a new commercial stove for the kitchen.
Board member Rita Brothers accomplished amazing strides for ACCESS by providing funding and labor for a new roof on the acquired room. As the year 2016 began, the Board recognized the many volunteers that achieved the phase one remodeling completion, adding two restrooms, washer-dryer room, new plumbing and electrical work and a HCAV system, tile floor, etc.
Major work continues to finalize the renovation project during 2016. The overall estimate for these upgrades and changes was approximately $100,000.00. The board believes these upgrades and changes will last our facilities for the next 20-30 years.
We will work to keep you updated as the renovations take place! Thank you for any donation you can make for this renovation!
